Hezbollah and Israeli Forces Engage in Direct Ground Combat in South Lebanon Villages
Israeli troops and Hezbollah fighters clashed in fierce house-to-house combat in southern Lebanon as Israel intensifies its ground offensive and aerial strikes.
Ground combat between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah militants intensified on Saturday, with reports of direct clashes in several villages across southern Lebanon. Hezbollah issued a statement claiming its fighters had engaged Israeli ground units at close range in two strategic border towns, utilizing anti-tank missiles and small arms fire to "thwart the enemy's advance." The escalation marks a significant deepening of the ground theater in a conflict that has already displaced over one million Lebanese civilians.
The IDF has concurrently renewed its aerial bombardment of Beirut’s southern suburbs, known as Dahiyeh, targeting what it describes as Hezbollah's command centers and weapons depots. These strikes follow a pattern of "limited and localized" operations aimed at degrading Hezbollah's capability to fire rockets into northern Israel. However, the intensity of the fighting has led to a deteriorating humanitarian situation. The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) warned that Lebanon is on the verge of a "humanitarian collapse," as essential infrastructure, including bridges and roads, has been destroyed, isolating tens of thousands of people in the south
