Israeli Navy Intercepts Gaza-Bound ‘Global Sumud’ Flotilla Near Crete in Major High-Seas Operation

The Israeli Navy conducted its most distant maritime interception to date today, seizing control of several vessels belonging to the "Global Sumud" humanitarian flotilla hundreds of kilometers away from the Israeli coastline. According to military sources and regional trackers, the operation took place in international waters near the Greek island of Crete. Israeli army radio confirmed that naval commandos have so far taken control of seven of the estimated 100 boats making up the flotilla, which was carrying approximately 1,000 activists and thousands of tons of aid intended to break the 19-year-old blockade of the Gaza Strip.
The "Global Sumud" (Global Steadfastness) mission, which departed from various Mediterranean ports earlier this month, aimed to establish a direct sea corridor for humanitarian relief.
